This testimony is given in loving gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me, for members of my family, and for suffering humanity. I did not become interested in Science through physical healing, although I needed it very much. It appealed to me as a religion that would help overcome a great sense of fear, worry, and nervousness, which was making life a burden. At that time I was a member of another church and had not lost faith in the doctors. I bought the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began the study of it; but in a very short time I could plainly see that I should have to make my choice either for Christian Science or for materia medica. In my efforts to make a decision I seemed to be in a more disturbed mental condition than I ever had been.

My husband and my parents were opposed to Science; so I stood alone. I finally decided that I was not quite ready and would discontinue the study for a time. However, the seed of Truth had been sown, and when, six years later, I took my Science and Health from the book-shelves, I was ready to take my stand regardless of any and all opposition. It was a very short time before my husband became interested in the study of Science; and the way became smoother as we began to put into practice our little understanding. It is so true that we have to prove every step taken in Science; and the time came when I had to prove that God heals. Our oldest little girl was taken suddenly ill on a Sunday with diphtheria. I called a practitioner, and as each day passed without the healing I was in despair; for error was constantly trying to make me think I was letting my child die; but I worked faithfully to silence the fear with the words from Proverbs, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." The healing came the next Saturday evening; and from a very sick child, she became absolutely normal. The joy of that moment will always stand out clearly in my consciousness. I had stood the test; I had been tried and not found wanting. God had healed. This took place just before Mrs. Eddy instructed the field that in cases of contagious disease health officers should be notified. Even then I was careful, and was wonderfully protected. We have had many wonderful healings, mentally, morally, physically, and financially. Very severe sick headaches of long standing were fully destroyed. I have also seen the healing of sprained ankles within a few hours. Before taking up Science, our youngest daughter had the whooping cough, which left her quite deaf. The healing of this difficulty was instantaneous.

I cannot begin to tell of all the healings and blessings and protection we have received during the years we have been depending on the truth. It is our privilege to be doing active church work, which is very helpful. We have been members of The Mother Church over twenty years. I am so grateful to the dear Science friends and practitioners, who so lovingly have helped me; for our Lesson-Sermons; for the periodicals; and to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I am grateful to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and above all, to God, the Giver of all good.
