The knowledge, understanding, and practice of the spiritual laws by which Christ Jesus did his healing and saving works may properly be termed scientific Christianity or Christian Science. Especially is Christian Science Christian, because it combines, as primary to healing through entire dependence on God, the reformation and regeneration of the sinner. The effect is moral as well as therapeutical. Whilst fully recognizing the devotion to humanity exhibited by most physicians in alleviating suffering, it will be remembered that the divinely appointed healers recorded in the Scriptures—certain prophets, the apostles, and followers of Jesus—all practiced spiritual healing through divine power alone. Acting on the commands of Christ Jesus, the early Christians healed by this spiritual power up to about the third century. From that time its general practice was suspended, until reinstated by Christian Science about fifty years ago. Christian Science goes direct to the great Physician, who, as the psalmist says, "healeth all thy diseases;" and in proportion to the spiritual understanding and purity of the practice of this Science, mankind is substantially benefited, as the records of Christian Science healing amply show. It thus deserves the respect of all fair-minded persons.
