The Lectures

Stockholm, Sweden (Society).—Introducing John W. Doorly, a Christian Science lecturer, to his audience, Miss Gerda Nordenstierna spoke as follows:—

Jesus said: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." How many of the sick, weary, and sorrowful have yearned to understand the meaning of these words of our Master and to find the answer to life's great question, "Whence and whither?" Jesus' disciples and the Christians during the first three centuries after Jesus' time comprehended the spirit of Truth so fully, that they healed the sick and even raised the dead; but the source of this healing was not then expressed as a Science, available to all. This wonderful mission was given to a woman of our day, was given to Mary Baker Eddy, who was humble and pure enough to understand the significance of Jesus' words, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." And this Comforter, which Mrs. Eddy called Christian Science and which she interpreted to us in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," teaches us truly how to understand Jesus' words and promises. It teaches us to understand the words: "My peace I give unto you;" "And your joy no man taketh from you;" "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine." It teaches us to understand the deep significance of Jesus' words, when he spoke of the woman who had been bound by sickness for eighteen years, and also the meaning of the words, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God."
