I shall never cease to be grateful to God for the preparation...
I shall never cease to be grateful to God for the preparation of my heart for the reception of Christian Science; for in Proverbs we read, "The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord." In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says on page 361, "God prepares the soil for the seed."
Through a loving desire to help a sister, who, to mortal sense, had passed through a very severe ordeal, I found the "pearl of great price." I did not know anything about Christian Science, but realized that she was in need of something beyond human aid, as everything possible had been done for her in a material way. My thought was uplifted to God to find a way to help her; and while talking to another sister about our sister's condition it developed that the former had attended services at the Christian Science church and had read a little of Science. Then we decided to ask our sister if she would like to try Christian Science; and as "man's extremity is God's opportunity" she gave her consent. A few days before this decision I met on the street a former member of the church of which I was a member, who told me of having been healed of cancerous tumors through Christian Science; so I called upon her to inquire how to proceed to get help for my sister. She told me of the Christian Science practitioner who had so lovingly helped her and of others, and I accompanied my sister to a practitioner's home. We had to walk about four blocks from the street car; and my sister said several times that she did not think she could possibly walk the distance, but I encouraged her, and we reached the house. After having been given a treatment, my sister said she felt like a new person, and that she could walk miles.
When the revelation of Truth came to me I did not think that I was in special need of anything, though I was fast yielding to tuberculosis. There were manifestations of every symptom of this disease, and every one said I had it. My husband had me examined twice by a physician; but I did not ask the result of the examination either time, feeling somewhat indifferent about it, and thinking that if I had it I would have to be resigned to the inevitable. After I commenced to read Christian Science literature every symptom of the disease gradually, and I might say, imperceptibly, left me, as did other physical, mental, and moral evils. The overcoming of all sickness and inharmonies of whatever nature has been entirely accomplished by reading and studying the Bible, and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and by applying my understanding of the truth. I make this statement with a heart full of gratitude to God and to our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and with the wish that it may help others to know that the simple reading of the Word of God does heal all inharmonies and bring joy, peace, and happiness to all who honestly and earnestly seek to know God, divine Love.
