May I state to your readers, in response to a statement of a critic, which appeared in a recent issue of your paper, that we can be Christian Scientists only to the extent that we leave all for Christ. Christian Science is built upon the rock of Christ. One of the tenets to which all persons joining the Christian Science church subscribe contains this pledge (Science and Health, p. 497): "And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure."

Christian Science conforms in every particular to the best dictionary definition of what it means to be a Christian. We do believe in Christ Jesus and the truth as taught by him; and especially do we realize that to be a Christian means that our inward and outward life must conform to the doctrines of Christ. We are finding that Christ is the ever present Savior, healing, saving, and blessing those who humbly trust him and rely on him. The significance of Christ Jesus' precious promise, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world," becomes more plain and assuring to the student of Christian Science as he endeavors the more assiduously to have the Mind of Christ. We have every reason to expect that the body will be emancipated from sickness when and as the thought is freed from sin. Any mystery in Christian Science or any misunderstanding of its teachings departs when the spiritual meaning of this truth is understood. A critic cannot be expected to bear reliable testimony on this subject, because if he really did understand it he could practice it. The fact that he cannot and does not practice it is conclusive evidence that he has not gained its spiritual meaning and is not, therefore, a reliable witness.
