Several years ago, while working for a large hotel corporation, I was taken suddenly and desperately ill at the very height of a busy summer season. My sense of responsibility was great, my disappointment keen; and as none of my associates had the slightest interest in Christian Science, I had to intrench myself strongly in the truth and know quickly that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." I immediately called up a Christian Science practitioner; and through her loving, faithful work the crisis was met, and I "live, and declare the works of the Lord."

The treatments were absent, and for two weeks I did not see the practitioner; but during this time my attendant read to me each day. One day, she turned to page 574 in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and read from that wonderful chapter devoted to the Apocalypse. When she came to the words, "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares," my belief of self-importance, impatient ambition, and self-will was unveiled and washed away. From that hour my recovery was rapid; and I now treasure the memory of that remarkable baptism. But there was still a greater lesson of patience to be learned; and it came slowly, oh, so slowly, as so-called after effects lingered for fully five years. However, I never wavered from the truth; and, as a result, was able each day to meet the many exactions of my business position. During all this time I devoted every spare moment to study, searching diligently the Scriptures and our Leader's writings for passages to cover my case. When the pressure seemed too great I would ask for help from this same loyal practitioner; and the prayers were always answered by a renewal of courage, strength, and hope, and a gradual lessening of distressing conditions. This continual battle with error proved to be a means of spiritual growth and enlightenment, until the victory came and freedom was established.

For all the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science I am more grateful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, than words can express. She has shown me my God, our God, the great Physician, "who healeth all thy diseases," not only physical, but financial, mental, and moral. I am indeed grateful.
