In dealing with her subject, "The New Psychology and Healing," the lecturer, whose lecture was reported in a recent issue of your paper, shows that she has not grasped the fundamental Principle of Christian Science, which has nothing in common with the Yoga systems of India, nor with any system based on an acceptance of the theory that good and evil influences can emanate from the same source. On the contrary, Christian Science clearly teaches and demonstrates that from the one infinite divine Mind only influences of good can come; and that, in reality, there is but this one Mind in which the universe exists. It accepts the obvious fact that a fountain cannot at the same place send forth sweet water and bitter.

It is on this basis of the allness of God—good—that Christian Science heals the sick, and therein differs from all other systems. In a book called "Unity of Good" (p. 9), Mary Baker Eddy writes, "The talent and genius of the centuries have wrongly reckoned. They have not based upon revelation their arguments and conclusions as to the source and resources of being,—its combinations, phenomena, and outcome,—but have built instead upon the sand of human reason.... What is the cardinal point of the difference in my metaphysical system? This: that by knowing the unreality of disease, sin, and death, you demonstrate the allness of God. This difference wholly separates my system from all others. The reality of these so-called existences I deny, because they are not to be found in God, and this system is built on Him as the sole cause. It would be difficult to name any previous teachers, save Jesus and his apostles, who have thus taught."

The Christian Scientist does not therefore explore the "region of the unconscious mind," but regards it as a kingdom divided against itself, which cannot stand; and it is clear there can be no analogy between it and that spiritual consciousness of God, which operates through spiritual law, and which, when scientifically demonstrated, reveals the kingdom of God.
