The words of gratitude and truth which I heard at a Wednesday testimony meeting in a Christian Science church planted my feet forever on the path that leads to salvation through a correct understanding of God and His Christ, including the understanding of man in God's likeness. Before I had finished one reading of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was enabled to lay aside glasses, which I had worn fifteen years, and which a leading oculist declared I should always need. This oculist had, in fact, prescribed stronger glasses about every time I visited him during those fifteen years. A few months later, the tobacco habit of nine years' standing left me. Both these healings occurred over eight years ago without treatment, and were instantaneous and permanent. It was inspiring, beyond words, to experience this fulfillment of the Scripture, "He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions."

Since then, I have had many occasions to give thanks for the healing efficacy of Christian Science. Among other things I was freed completely from headaches, which had previously caused frequent suffering. This healing, as well as the total disappearance of any desire for alcoholic liquors, came, like my first healings, as a result of studying our textbook. On three occasions I was cured of different illnesses, which the medical profession classes among those that may result fatally; and in one of these I went right into "the valley of the shadow of death," but was led safely out through the blessed ministrations of Christian Science. In this connection, I wish to record my heartfelt gratitude for the faithful and loving aid received from practitioners.

While joyfully receiving these healings as a further sign of God's power, I know that of themselves they are but the cleaning of "the outside of the cup and of the platter," and that the great work of Christian Science is the destruction of sin in all its forms. With my physical healings there has come the inevitable beginning of that spiritual regeneration, the completion of which is our ultimate goal. When I contemplate what the power of Christian Science means to me and to all mankind in this respect, I feel that my debt to Mary Baker Eddy is indeed immeasurable.
