I owe my knowledge of Christian Science, which I have...
I owe my knowledge of Christian Science, which I have possessed for about two years, to my son who is in America. Up to that time, notwithstanding my religious training, all the teaching given to me, and my very earnest study in the field of the speculative sciences, I had not succeeded in acquiring an exact knowledge, or true understanding, of God. Therefore, I applied myself at once to the study of the textbook of Christian Science, entitled "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. After the reading of the first chapter of this marvelous book, namely, the chapter on Prayer, which would by itself have been sufficient to immortalize the name of Mrs. Eddy, I accepted Christian Science immediately.
Persevering in my study, I have gained gradually the true understanding of God as the absolute Principle, as the Father-Mother of all. I have obtained a true conception of humanity, as manifested in the brotherhood of man, which results from the spiritual understanding of the fatherhood and motherhood of the one and only God. As for physical healing, I was healed of chronic cold in the head of many years' standing, which worried me especially in winter, binding me to preventive means, as fastidious as ridiculous. A mental trouble, which for years had been encroaching constantly upon my thought, has also been overcome through the teachings of Christian Science.
Indeed, words fail to express fully my awe and my gratitude, in recognition of this mental transformation, this spiritual uplift,—in short, this new birth,—which the sublime doctrine of Christian Science impresses upon us! In teaching us how to conquer sin, disease, and death, it gives dominion over weakness, pain, and fear. This means that with Christian Science each one becomes one's own doctor and pastor. What an inestimable blessing for mankind! As a result, I spend my life in perpetual thanksgiving to our Father-Mother God for all the benefits already received, and to our Master, Christ Jesus, the Way-shower of humanity.
