[Written for the Sentinel]

Love's Touch

How oft the saddening stress of earthHas crushed a heart, and hushed its mirthMid shadows grim and cold; And then, as oft, has Love's warm touchCome gently, with glad carols, suchAs angels sang of old,

And waked a zeal within that breastTo follow Love's divine behestIn strict obedience. And to its mandate, "Heal the sick,"Has given impulse, lifting quickWith Truth's omnipotence.
