[Written for the Sentinel]

Love's Touch

How oft the saddening stress of earth
Has crushed a heart, and hushed its mirth
Mid shadows grim and cold;
And then, as oft, has Love's warm touch
Come gently, with glad carols, such
As angels sang of old,

And waked a zeal within that breast
To follow Love's divine behest
In strict obedience.
And to its mandate, "Heal the sick,"
Has given impulse, lifting quick
With Truth's omnipotence.
