Christian Science was presented to me six years ago by...
Christian Science was presented to me six years ago by a very dear friend, who had been healed through its teachings. I was suffering from tuberculosis and from several other organic ailments, for which I had undergone a severe operation two years previously. I had never regained my strength after the operation; and the physicians claimed it had brought on pulmonary tuberculosis. The belief of heredity was very strong, as my father had passed on just a few years before, being the seventh one in his immediate family who had succumbed to the same disease.
At first, I would not listen to the teachings of Christian Science, thinking it was God's will that I should suffer; so I was sent to a sanitarium. There I remained in bed for five months. When I returned home, I was worse than when I went. Several months went by, until my condition was so alarming I was willing to try anything; and I thought I would find out something more about Christian Science. Accordingly, I sent for a practitioner. I never shall forget the day she came into my room; it seemed as though all the darkness had disappeared. I slept better that night than I had for months, and awoke the next morning very much refreshed. After four weeks' treatment the high temperature which had been worrying me for months disappeared, and I was able to go to see the practitioner. I am now in better health than I have been all my previous life. I not only do all my housework, but am also called on to help my husband in his business, sometimes getting home very late in the evening.
For this and many other healings I am indeed grateful to God, to Mrs. Eddy, our great Leader, and to the dear practitioner who gave me the first proof of the healing power of Truth. —(Mrs.) Mary J. Porter, Catonsville, Md.
