Christian Science came to me at a time of great need,...
Christian Science came to me at a time of great need, and I can tell only a little of what it has done for me; but my gratitude is great and sincere. For many years my health was a source of constant anxiety to myself and others. I never knew what it meant to feel really well; and medical men only made matters worse by increasing my fears. Finally, what I had always dreaded came about,—the advice that I should at once undergo yet another operation. I hesitated, as I felt I had not strength to go through it.
Just at this time I began to hear more about Christian Science. I attended a Christian Science lecture, which impressed me very much; so I decided to try Christian Science before having the operation. I obtained a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and from the time I began to read it I have lived in another world. My thoughts began to change. My one desire was to understand more of the beautiful truth that was unfolding to me, to think better and to act better. My physical condition, of course, began to respond to the mental change; and when, after studying for three weeks, I saw a Christian Science practitioner and she told me my healing had started, I said to her, "Am I really going to be better without having that operation?" She gave me hope and encouragement, and told me to go on as I was doing, which I did; and after about four months the pain, which had been gradually lessening, entirely left me.
I have had many other physical healings; but it is for the peace and harmony Christian Science has brought to a worried mentality, and for the spiritual understanding that is releasing me from the false testimony of the material senses, that I am especially grateful. Christian Science is helping me to realize man's unity with God, and the everpresence of the dear Father's love.
