"Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts"

"Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts." These words from the book of the prophet Malachi always recall my very early experience as a seeker for Truth. When, antagonism and misunderstanding put aside, at last willing to receive it, a copy of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, was given me, after reading but a few pages I was convinced of the truth of its religious teaching; but I said to the friend who had lent me the book, "I cannot believe in the healing power of Christian Science." The reply was simply, "To Christian Scientists the healing is proof of the truth of the religion."

At that time a member of the family was suffering constantly from an ulcer, which had caused a triangular shaped cavity of considerable depth in the center of the tongue. Every movement of the mouth was most painful. Our faithful physician had, for two years, used every material means he knew of to heal this condition, without success. The sufferer had been much opposed to Christian Science, but finally consented to have a practitioner called. On the second morning after the first treatment was given, the tongue was healed. It was perfect—as smooth and healthy as it had ever been. Here, certainly, was proof that Christian Science does heal. I was now ready to study the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings to learn how disease is healed in Christian Science.

In the years since that time, the proofs of the power of Truth to heal and bless have been many. A form of indigestion, from which I had suffered all my life, has gradually dropped away. Severe headaches, frequent colds, and other physical ailments have also disappeared. I realize that I owe everything to Christian Science,—home, friends, health, and happiness. It is my earnest desire to prove in a measure worthy of these blessings, for which I am truly grateful to God; for each is a proof of Immanuel, "God with us."
