After long silence and with a deep sense of gratitude I...
After long silence and with a deep sense of gratitude I feel impelled to give testimony of the beautiful blessings I have received through Christian Science. In October, 1917, I became ill with an abdominal trouble and consulted a physician, but became worse from day to day. After five weeks bladder trouble appeared, and I was obliged to lie abed, as I suffered intense pain. Upon persuasion of my wife I turned to a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly accepted my case, and improvement commenced. Suddenly there was a standstill, and upon recommendation of the practitioner I consulted another one, who immediately accepted me. After long and laborious work the bladder trouble vanished. Another standstill took place, however, and rheumatism and deafness manifested themselves, causing me to become desperate. My practitioner advised me to consult still another practitioner, who kindly accepted me. After long treatment I improved so that I was able to get up. This gentleman then moved, and for this reason I sought a practitioner in Der Herold. This practitioner agreed to treat me. With love and reverence I think of the great sacrifice that was made. I improved visibly, the rheumatism and internal pains are gone, and my hearing was again restored.
I was also a heavy drinker; this caused me to be violent and rough to my family and working colleagues frequently. I have now become an entirely different person. Through the illness I lost my position and had no prospects of securing another. Thereupon the practitioner explained that God supplies all His children's needs, and that I should thank our heavenly Father for the blessings received up to this time. After twelve weeks I received a position, and a better one I could not wish for. With an entirely different viewpoint and joy I perform my work. My wife has also been healed of various ills through Christian Science.
We are heartily thankful to God for His loving guidance, and think with love of our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the heritage left us in Science and Health.—Martin Helmanzik, Berlin-Charlottenburg, Germany.
