A clergyman in a recent issue of the Times is quoted as stating that Christian Scientists "believe that God is love," and takes issue with that teaching on the ground that it is "a denial of the fundamental principle of the Scriptures." This is rather an unfortunate statement by this critic, in view of what John, the beloved disciple, in I John iv:16 states. There we read, "God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him."

Henry Drummond in his lecture "The Greatest Thing in the World" says: "Eternal life also is to know God, and God is love. This is Christ's own definition. Ponder it. 'This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.' Love must be eternal. It is what God is." And further on he adds: "To be saved is to love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth already in God. For God is Love."

In Christian Science we know that "God is Love," because we are able to prove that He is. The Christian Science teachings on all subjects are the Bible teachings on these same subjects, for in no way does Christian Science depart from the teachings of the prophets, of Jesus the Christ, or of his disciples. Christian Science does not "deny that Jesus is the Son of God," does not "deny the resurrection" nor "the meaning of the crucifixion" as this critic would have your readers believe. Christian Scientists adore Jesus the Christ, and follow him by doing the works he promised his followers should do as no other band of Christians adore and follow him.
