When I was about ten years old a simple explanation...
When I was about ten years old a simple explanation of Christian Science appealed so strongly to my child-thought as being the truth that I was enabled to overcome an attack of stomach trouble which the doctor said I would be subject to until it was finally outgrown. Although during these illnesses I usually spent a week or two in bed I was able to get up after a day, much to the surprise of my family. After this experience Christian Science occupied a very small part of my thought, crowded out by seemingly more important things. Then about six years later my mother was to undergo a very serious operation with little hope of recovery, and was sent home from the hospital for a few days before to see us for what might prove to be the last time. During these few days a neighbor proposed Christian Science treatment, which my mother consented to try. After a week there was a marked improvement in her condition. She did not return to the hospital for the operation, and in several weeks was completely healed. Even after this beautiful demonstration of the all-power of God I put off the study of Christian Science until several years ago, when I was cured in five treatments of what a physician diagnosed as a very serious case of diphtheria. We asked for help from a reading room and the practitioner who was sent has guided me through several experiences.
Two years ago this summer my baby girl was born. Only the practitioner and a Christian Science nurse were present and it was a practically painless experience and one of great rejoicing. My baby is happy and healthy. She had no trouble whatever in teething. Only twice has it been necessary to ask for Christian Science treatment for her and each time the healing was instantaneous.
In countless other ways Christian Science has been an ever present help, one of which was the protection and absence of fear during air raids. I can never be sufficiently grateful to Christian Science and to its Founder, Mrs. Eddy, who courageously explored the way for us, and has made practical and demonstrable in this age the teachings of Christ Jesus.
