Tuscany, Italy.—Here are some important notices about the philanthropic work done by the Christian Scientists in Tuscany, and especially in Florence. From December, 1916, to the end of December, 1919, the committee of the Christian Science Society, Florence, have received 306,500 lire and 475 pairs of shoes from the directors of the War Relief Fund of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. To this amount must be added a further sum of 100,000 lire sent to the committee by the friends of Christian Science in America and England. These sums were distributed among those who suffered in consequence of the war, and later on in the earthquake district. Besides money and shoes much clothing was also sent from America. The treasurer formed other committees in Rome, Genoa, Siena, Ancona, Brescia, and Sarzana, and to these committees were sent money and shoes. The members of the committees had the children try on the shoes in their presence in order to give them with discrimination.
