Christian Science Practical

We are living in practical times. Humanity is demanding practical results in every undertaking. It is therefore but natural that all mankind should be demanding immediate and permanent healing, fettered as it is by the bonds of sin and disease. Christian Science is meeting these requirements, and this is the secret of its rapid growth and its increasing acceptance everywhere. This practicability of Christian Science in meeting the problems that present themselves to mankind is freely acknowledged by grateful hearts in thousands of cases throughout the civilized world.

While the investigator learns of the healing experiences of others, and through this knowledge turns to Christian Science for relief, he does so quite generally with little or no confidence in its ability to meet his particular need but largely in sheer despair because of the failure of other methods. Then comes the healing. While not understanding, except perhaps in a small measure, how this has all been accomplished, yet he has attained an abiding conviction, through his own experience, that Christian Science does heal,—like the man blind from birth, whom Jesus healed, who refuted the efforts to discredit Jesus' work, persisting that one thing he knew, that whereas he had been blind he then saw. There arises in the heart of every sincere seeker after Truth a desire to acquire a working knowledge of God, for that is really all that Christian Science is. The unprejudiced awaken to see that immediate steps should be taken to gain a practical apprehension of this law, this Christ, Truth, and to prove that this law is ever operative and applicable to every problem that confronts humanity, whether in an office, at a workman's bench, in the home, or behind a prison wall.

Now, how is this accomplished? Christ Jesus very simply stated the method when he declared that it was by the knowledge of Truth and that this understanding makes men free. In this identical manner Christian Science proves today as irrefutably as in the days of its earlier ministry, the truth about God, divine Principle or Mind, and man, His inseparable idea, dwelling eternally in the realm of Mind. This desired healing is only attained through elevating thought out of the shadows of material sense into the full sunshine of spiritual understanding. This rejection of corporeal sense testimony uplifts consciousness to a realization of the perfection of Mind and of Mind's idea, man. This knowledge or Science is now healing and comforting the needy in New York and in London as veritably as it once did in the streets of Jerusalem and on the shores of Galilee. The method is explained with great simplicity by Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," beginning on page 476: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick." In like manner Christian Science recognizes and proves beyond cavil that an understanding of this perfection can come alone through realizing that we are living, always have lived, and ever shall live wholly in the universe of the one consciousness, which is God, and that all suggestions of the senses operating as so-called laws of mortality are lies concerning the reality of Life which is God, eternal Life. Hence, these false arguments can in no wise usurp the government of the one Mind or Principle, God, and the liberty of His idea, man.
