I am indeed grateful for the teachings of Christian Science....
I am indeed grateful for the teachings of Christian Science. From early childhood I felt the need of understanding God's laws, and I was taught in the Sunday schools and read the Bible, I thought, understandingly, yet I felt a hungering for something I had not yet found. As I grew to manhood, I searched the Scriptures and investigated some of the different religions, with the hope of finding something that would enable me to know I was journeying in the way of God's appointing, yet the hungering for something I had not found remained with me. Later I was overcome with the claim of several different diseases, including rheumatism and heart disease, which was followed by a complete breakdown with nervous prostration. I tried different physi cians, and many kinds of patent medicines, but grew worse all the time. I received no encouragement from the doctors, and I made up my mind I would rather pass on than suffer as I was.
At this time, which was about six years ago, I was told about Christian Science and, being willing to try anything, after having learned how to reach a practitioner, I at once asked for help. To my great surprise as well as that of my friends, in just a few days I began to improve, and soon every discordant condition was healed. The hungering and thirsting for something I had never found was quenched through the reading of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and Mrs. Eddy's other writings. The Bible and the Christian Science textbook are my daily companions. I am indeed grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy for giving us directions, that show us the way into the kingdom, and to my many friends who so lovingly helped me on my journey out of the wilderness. I am indeed grateful for church work, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for class instruction. My greatest desire is to become a true Christian Scientist, one not only through words but through deeds, who demonstrates what the knowledge of Truth gives to mankind. John Adam Burdell, Little Rock, Ark.
