Living as I do in a remote highland glen I am finding that Christian Science is indeed the "pearl of great price." It was first introduced to me by a Scientist who, on hearing of my great physical need, sent me some literature to read. I well remember that day, for I was in the depths of misery, due to sleeplessness and other discordant conditions following a protracted illness. Most of that winter had been spent in bed.
I could not understand how the reading of a book would in any way help one to get rid of such utter weakness, and did not look at the literature at all when my husband brought it to me. Some hours later I had a visit from a neighbor, a clergyman, who came to inquire how I was getting on. Before leaving, he knelt down by my bedside and prayed to God that I might be restored to health and strength. Now I pondered on that prayer and thought that surely God did know my great need; then why was the prayer not answered. In a moment my thoughts turned to the literature which had been sent to help me, and in it I found the answer to prayer. As I realized that God is the only Mind and learned that there is no power apart from Him, my healing was speedily accomplished.
The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, has enabled me to see the Bible in a new light and explains many things never before understood. I study the Lesson-Sermons daily, and they are a great help to me. It is now five years since my healing took place and all my needs have been supplied through my understanding of Christian Science. I am truly thankful to God for this great truth and also grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her consecrated life and for Science and Health, which gives us a clearer understanding of the Bible, of God, and of our relation to Him and to our brother man.—(Mrs.) Mary McLauchlan, Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland.
