The Lectures

Concord, N. H. (auspices churches and societies of New Hampshire).—Judge Samuel W. Greene, lecturer; introduced by Speaker Charles W. Tobey of the state House of Representatives, who said:—

The events of the last few years have been of tremendous value to our people in causing us to exercise the divine power of thought to a degree rarely if ever known before. The necessity and exigencies of the times incidental to the great events through which we have passed, have called for our best in thought and effort. A spirit of service and cooperation has been much in evidence, and the unselfish response of our people to the various calls has developed something in our lives long dormant. The mainspring behind this spirit and response has been love,—love for country, love for home, and love for the world; and the source of this love has been the divine in us.

The forces of righteousness and Christianity have triumphed over autocracy and wrong, and we have to-day a world-wide consciousness awakening. Mighty changes portend. Where is the man or woman who does not thrill with pride and exultation at America's part in it all and the tremendous import of the acceptance of the principles of the League of Nations by the Peace Conference, influenced so largely by the leadership of this nation. The world is waking up. There is a deeper interest in and regard for our fellow man manifestly apparent. But peace has its liabilities as well as assets. We are called upon to face great problems.
