I am very grateful to God for the many blessings that have come to me and to my family through Christian Science, and hope that this testimony may be the means of helping some one to know that God is our ever present help. Eighteen years ago I was stopping overnight at the home of a friend, a Christian Science practitioner. That evening we went to a show in town and just as it was letting out I was stricken blind and had to be led back to the house. On arriving there my friend asked me if I wanted a doctor, but I said I had heard so much about Christian Science I would like to have her treat me. I was cured then and there in one treatment. Eight years later while in business in Kansas City I was taken down with what the doctor called a very bad case of stricture. He stated that I would have to operated on at once, but on arriving home I went to bed and had my wife call up a Christian Science practitioner. Treatment was given me and I was healed in one week.

Six years after that, while living in Colorado, we were out riding in our car one evening when we saw three large cars coming toward us at a high rate of speed. I got over as far as I could to the side of the road, but the second car hit us head-on. My wife was thrown headfirst through the wind shield, cutting her face and hands very badly. When picked up she was lying on the running board on the opposite side. I was thrown against the steering wheel, smashing it down completely and striking on my chest, also cutting a gash under my chin clear through into my mouth. We were brought back to our home and some one called a doctor. Neither of us knew what was going on. The doctor examined my wife and sewed up all the cuts. Then he examined me and found the cut under my chin and an internal hurt. By this time I had regained consciousness. The doctor said he was going to sew up the cut, but I would not let him; instead I wired at once to a Christian Science practitioner and was cured completely in six weeks. The scars are hardly noticeable.

After this I went to drinking hard for three years. I tried to quit but could not seem to. Then, as I was living close to New Mexico and it was going dry soon, I decided to go down and lay in a supply of liquor, thinking that when I had drunk that all up I would end my life; but on my way back the law caught me in a small town, so I had to give a bond or go to jail. I tried every man in town for bond, and when about ready to give up I came across the last man at the end of the street. I told him my story and he helped me out. Then I talked with him about my trial and told him that the best lawyers had informed me they could do nothing for me. I said there was but one way out, and that was through Christian Science; that it had helped me several times when I needed help most, but I had never done anything for Science or my God, so I was ashamed to ask for any more help. After he had talked to me a few minutes I saw that he was a Scientist, and realized that Science was helping, after every one else had turned me down. I began to realize that I never had understood God or Christian Science, or knew what it meant to my daily life, and that God was an ever present help. At the trial I trusted in God only, and with the help of a practitioner everything was adjusted according to God's laws. For all the above I cannot explain in words how thankful I am to God and how grateful to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
