With joy and gratitude I send this testimony, hoping that it may convince some sufferer of the healing power of Truth. A little over five years ago I was a hopeless invalid confined to a wheel chair and wearing a heavy spinal brace. My back had never been strong, and for fifteen years my condition had been gradually growing worse, although every treatment known to the medical profession had been given a trial. For almost two years daily treatments were given me at a sanatorium. The X-ray showed the case to be hopeless. The bones which connect the hips with the spine had slipped from the sockets, and surgeons in Philadelphia said there was no operation known to medical science which could put them back into place. There was also curvature of the spine, and as organic heart disease had developed, it was said that an operation of any kind would prove fatal. Finally a malignant growth in the breast returned, and as I had been under the surgeon's knife three times, it was a relief to know that operations were things of the past. My family was told to make me as comfortable as possible while I lived.

At this point a Christian Science practitioner was asked for treatment, and in two weeks the growth began to decrease in size and the pain to lessen, until there was no trace of the growth left, and for the first time in ten years I was free from pain in the breast. There has been no return of the trouble. Gradually the spine straightened and the indentations in the back caused by the parting of the bones filled in, showing that these were slowly but surely going back into place. Little by little I started to walk, and at last discarded both chair and brace. I have been a well woman for over three years, walking everywhere without support of any kind, knowing that God is my strength.

This beautiful religion was first presented to me thirty years ago by the pastor of our church, whose son had received a wonderful healing, and it was called to my attention many times afterwards; but while I thought the teaching beautiful and loved to read the literature, which was sent to me from time to time, it seemed too idealistic, and I was also very skeptical. I now know God as Love, and that He is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin. I thank God for this practical religion, and am grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who passed through such deep waters to give this truth to the world. For all of her writings, for the Christian Science literature, and for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church I am very grateful.
