I took up the study of Christian Science three years and...
I took up the study of Christian Science three years and a half ago to help those dear to me, not realizing at the time that I needed healing myself, and it is for this awakening I am so deeply grateful. After much tribulation, one day I was earnestly seeking Truth and was led to study the chapter on Animal Magnetism in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. On page 102 she writes, "So secret are the present methods of animal magnetism that they ensnare the age into indolence, and produce the very apathy on the subject which the criminal desires." I realized that "apathy" was the trouble, and I started to work to find out what the secret method meant. Finally came the realization that it is not only aggressive error that persecutes Truth, but that sleepy self-righteousness is a persecutor also, and strenuous efforts are needed to awake to the fact that Love is the only power. I am truly grateful for the understanding that true forgiveness is the destruction in our own consciousness of the belief in error.
It is difficult to express the gratitude I feel for the many healings in my home. My little boy's teeth were very irregular and ugly, but through the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner the trouble was overcome. Teeth which the dentist said could not possibly come through right, have come in perfect order without any dental appliances.
I want also to express my appreciation of our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose life is a continual source of encouragement to me. Her strength and meekness were mighty indeed. My gratitude to God can only be evidenced in my desire to learn to love more.
