Funds of The Mother Church

"The inclosed money order is a contribution to the Christian Science Benevolent Association fund. It represents that which was sold to buy 'the pearl of great price.' The word 'benevolent' is well chosen, and to me it has always meant a disposition that included the whold of humanity in good deeds. It must be the love referred to by our dear Leader when she says, 'I make strong demands on love, call for active witnesses to prove it, and noble sacrifices and grand achievements as its results ... it is the tender, unselfish deed done in secret; the silent, ceaseless prayer; the self-forgetful heart that overflows; the veiled form stealing on an errand of mercy, ... the gentle hand opening the door that turns toward want and woe, sickness and sorrow, and thus lighting the dark places of earth' (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 250). In gratitude that through my small understanding I was enabled to obey the command to 'heal the sick,' I am sending this, my first remuneration for a Christian Science treatment."

"I am inclosing check herewith for The Christian Science Benevolent Association fund. I recently received metaphysical help from a soldier in one of our camps, who requested that I turn over to The Mother Church whatever I intended for him as an expression of gratitude. It is therefore my pleasure to send this to you as a direct message of love from a boy in khaki."

"Inclosed please find check for ten dollars for the Benevolent Association fund. I am so grateful for this one lesson Christian Science is teaching me, namely, that 'giving does not impoverish us in the service of our Maker, neither does withholding enrich us,' as our Leader tells us on page 79 of Science and Health."
