Depressed with an abiding fear, two brother having...
Depressed with an abiding fear, two brothers having passed on with tubercular disease, I went South under a physician's advice to get relief from a serious throat trouble. This concession to climate seemed for a time to dispel the fear of pulmonary trouble, but it did not eliminate the throat suffering, which continued at intervals, and an operation, the second I had undergone, followed.
Enjoying the privileges of earnest church work, I remained for a time satisfied with my religion; but with the passing on of members of my family, a heart-hunger for consolation which my church did not afford, drove me unconsciously farther and farther away from orthodox beliefs, and great gloom settled upon me. At this hour of need Science and Health was presented to me by one who had been healed through Christian Science when in dire extremity. This illustration of God's power to heal, compelled my attention and investigation, but fearing that I might do violence to my husband's position in the church and unsettle the thought of a dear niece and nephew to whom I had been a mother, I made little headway. My efforts to free myself from ecclesiastical environment were intermittent and unsatisfactory until a dear brother who was a Scientist visited our home and imparted the encouragement and help I needed. My rapture in gaining an understanding of Christian Science under his guidance is beyond the power of words to express. The deep gloom was dispelled, and my physical healing was accomplished through reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I nevermore doubted that Christian Science was the religion of the Master, and it was as natural to love Science as if I had known it always. A transformation of thought had been effected; I found the oil of joy and the garment of praise.
I am grateful for all the physical healings which have come to me through my study of Christian Science. Chiefest of all, however, is my delight in the Word of God, as given in the Bible and explained in the writings of Mrs. Eddy.—(Mrs.) Belle F. Kerr, Birmingham, Ala.
