Among the Churches

Current Notes

Christchurch, New Zealand .—Over four years ago the Christian Scientists of Christchurch purchased for the sum of £2450 the property now known as First Church of Christ, Scientist, situated on the corner of Gloucester and Madras Streets, facing Latimer Square. The property was formerly known as Girton College. At a meeting of the members of the church, held recently, it was reported that the property was now freehold. Owing to the unsettled state of building operations and prices it was deemed advisable to defer considering the erection of a new church edifice at present. It was resolved that several alterations and improvements be made to the present church building and grounds, and that a free public reading room be shortly opened in the city.—The Star.

Santa Ana, Cal.—In preparation for building a handsome new church at the southwest corner of Tenth and Main Streets, First Church of Christ, Scientist, has petitioned the court for permission to sell its present home, including two lots, at the corner of Sixth and Sycamore Streets.
