On page 540 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy has written, "The muddy river-bed must be stirred in order to purify the stream." Before I understood anything about the truth as it is taught in Christian Science, my mentality, with its sick thoughts, its fears, limitations, jealousies, hate, and selfishness, was indeed like a "muddy river-bed," and in great need of being stirred and purified. I am very thankful to say that the needed purifying process has been started and I know that it will continue until I can say as did Paul, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." For over eight years Christian Science has been my only physician and my constant protection, and it has never failed me when I have honestly and consistently applied its teachings. I have been healed of an ulcerated tooth, of headaches and nervousness, and many disagreeable traits of character have been overcome. I am truly grateful for every physical healing, but far more so for the spiritual unfoldment and enlightenment that Christian Science has brought to me.
I am very glad to say that both my mother and my father have been greatly benefited by Christian Science and they are truly grateful. For many years my father had been a chronic invalid, suffering severely and frequently from stomach trouble. About seven years ago he was healed in Christian Science, and there has never been any return of the difficulty.
I am most grateful to Mrs. Eddy, and deeply thankful for the purity, love, and self-sacrifice which enabled her to give this healing and liberating truth to the world. I wish also to express my appreciation for all our literature, including the Lesson-Sermons, which are unfailing sources of inspiration and help. I humbly desire that I may learn so to live that my actions at all times express my gratitude.
