In 1912 I came into Christian Science for the healing of my lungs, after having been given up by six of the most prominent doctors in this city, who said they had done all they could for me. I also had kidney and bladder trouble, as well as many other ills. I had taken so much medicine that my stomach was completely poisoned, and I could not retain even milk. Then hemorrhages set in, resulting in the loss of my voice, so that I could hardly speak above a whisper, and knowing that every material thing possible had been done I tried to resign myself to die. However, the thought came to try Christian Science, so a practitioner was sent for. She gave me a treatment, and on leaving told me I should go to church the next Wednesday evening. I looked at her in amazement as she could plainly see I was too weak to sit up over an hour at a time; but it was beautifully proved that she knew what she was saying.
By Wednesday I was strong enough to go to the meeting, although it was a rainy night and I had not been outdoors for over three months. No ill effects were experienced and I was in time for church the following Sunday morning feeling much stronger. I never missed a service after that, rain or shine. Although it was three years before I realized the complete healing of my lungs, yet I was healed of bowel trouble in the first treatment and one by one the other ailments disappeared. Many times I grew despondent and discouraged but I knew there was nothing for me to do but hold to God, and now I give thanks and rejoice that I was given patience to wait. I am a living testimony to the healing power of Christian Science.
Words cannot express my gratitude for the spiritual uplift, which has given me an understanding of a dear FatherMother God, all through the earnest study of Christian Science. By trying to emulate Jesus in all his ways I am striving daily to be worthy to be called a Christian Scientist. Once life to me was not worth living, but thanks to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, it is now a joy to live.
