We wish to give a testimony as a token of the great gratitude...
We wish to give a testimony as a token of the great gratitude we have for Christian Science. At four o'clock one morning in February, 1911, our eldest boy, then four years and a half old, was taken seriously ill with convulsions. The physician who was called in diagnosed the case as infantile paralysis of the worst kind and said there was absolutely no help; but a hypodermic was administered to lessen the intense suffering. A Christian Science practitioner was then telephoned to and immediately began treatment.
The child lay absolutely motionless, not even being able to swallow, until eight o'clock the next morning, at which time he opened his eyes. In two days he could roll around on the bed, although his right leg and right arm were helpless and the right side of his face indicated, by the fallen cheek, his condition. In two weeks he could walk, and in a year no trace of the weakness could be seen. He is now eleven years old, strong and healthy, plays ball, skates, and participates in all athletic sports, is exceptionally bright in his school work, and shows an intellect that would be remarkable for a child much older. We are writing this testimony at his suggestion, and in gratitude for the many blessings which we have received since coming into Christian Science eight years ago. We have three younger children who have never had a physician, as all of their difficulties have been overcome by Christian Science.
We are more than grateful to Mrs. Eddy for giving to the world the new-old teachings that for so many years had been lost. We find them a great comfort to us during this agitation between nations. We are living in a small western town, and the opposition to Christian Science was very strong eight years ago, but now we have readings every Sunday morning and a number of interested students are attending.
