Some years ago I was nursing a six-months-old baby in my own home, whilst the mother was having an operation in another district. After a few days the baby showed signs of illness, and I sent for the doctor, as the parents were not Christian Scientists; but the child got worse and worse, notwithstanding all the loving care the doctor gave, and on Sunday night the doctor said the little one would not live till twelve o'clock. When I heard this I did not feel I could let him go, so taking the responsibility I sent my husband to tell a Christian Science practitioner about the child's condition and ask for treatment. He was very unwilling to go, as he said that even if the baby got better he would not be right mentally; but I insisted, knowing that God does His work thoroughly and that the child could only live to be a blessing to his parents. The practitioner gave absent treatments at intervals during that night, and just at twelve o'clock the bowels moved naturally. The doctor had not expected them to move again, as we had tried every material means that evening. The little one's head, which had moved incessantly on the pillow, became quiet, and he fell into a restful sleep. He slept all the next day and was perfectly well. He is now a clever, intelligent schoolboy.
Christian Science has been a great help to me in every way. It has made me strong and well and given me something to live for. Before, it did not seem worth while to live, as life was a continual struggle against supposedly inherited weakness. Now I know that with God as our Father we can inherit only good.
