For some time I have felt the desire to express my gratitude for what God has done for me through Christian Science; indeed, I am more grateful than words can express for all the various healings that have come to me through the little understanding that I have of this wonderful truth. Not long ago I was healed of scarlet fever in a comparatively few days. Although compelled by the board of health to remain in my room for several weeks, I was practically well by the end of the first week. The blessing of this healing was that not one of the three other children in the family took the disease. This proved to me what Mrs. Eddy writes in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 229): "A calm, Christian state of mind is a better preventive of contagion than a drug, or than any other possible sanative method; and the 'perfect Love' that 'casteth out fear' is a sure defense."

Through the healing of what is called pleural pneumonia, when I was a small child, my family became interested in Christian Science. Doctors had given up all hopes of my recovering, and I was not expected to live until the next morning. Through the faithful work of a Christian Science friend, however, the next morning the fever had disappeared, and the doctor stated that I would recover in a few days, but that he could not understand what had brought about such a remarkable change in so short a time. This was indeed a beautiful demonstration of Truth's power.
