Among the Churches

Current Notes

Burlington, Vt.—One of the most important actions taken at the annual meeting of the Christian Science Society was the approval by the members of a resolution to support the Camp Welfare work which is being done among the enlisted men at Fort Ethan Allen and the university war schools. A substantial sum of money was voted for the immediate use of the Christian Science Camp Welfare worker in these two army posts, and provision was made for the further financial support of this work by the society as the need shall arise.

The work at Fort Ethan Allen and the university war schools, in which the cooperation of the members was asked, was begun some weeks ago and has borne much good fruit already. A worker, appointed by the War Relief and Camp Welfare committee of The Mother Church in Boston, was sent into this field to organize the work and get in touch with the enlisted men in both camps who are interested in Christian Science. The worker was provided with vest pocket copies of the Christian Science textbook to be given to those who wish smaller copies of the textbook.

A personal call is made upon every man, where possible, and his needs inquired into. He is invited to attend the services and to meet the members and be entertained in the homes. If his family stands in any need, this fact is made known to the camp worker in their locality, and when he leaves this training camp for another in some distant part of the country, he carries with him a card of introduction to the worker in the camp to which he is assigned. These activities are in no sense religious propaganda.
