It was in 1905 that I first heard of Christian Science
It was in 1905 that I first heard of Christian Science. A friend told me of a beautiful healing through Christian Science treatment and left with me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." This friend could not explain the teaching to me at all, and I did not even open the book, thinking that I had no time for new religions. Three years later Christian Science was again brought to my notice, and this time I was ready for it and felt convinced, after reading and studying the textbook, that I had found a practical religion. One very dear to me passed on, leaving me alone. I was wonderfully helped and directed then, and have been ever since. Christian Science has been my only physician during these years and has never failed me.
For two years before I knew of this truth my clothes had to be supported from the shoulders, as I could bear no pressure on the body. The doctors' verdict was that this would always be the case; but in two weeks after studying Science and Health I cast off the loose gowns and put on ordinary clothing. I have also been healed of rheumatism, influenza, kidney trouble, bowel disorder, headaches, and the fear of lung trouble, with which my father and five brothers had passed on. While very grateful for the physical healing, I am still more so for the spiritual uplift, which has enabled me to overcome resentment, hatred; also the judging and condemning of others.
Although there seemed to be obstacles in the way, I have had the great privilege of class instruction. I cannot express in words my thankfulness to God and my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, who through her purity of vision gave to the world the Christian Science textbook, from which we learn how to apply the teachings of Jesus in every time of need. I am also grateful for every branch of the Christian Science movement.
