Although up to the present time I have not been called...
Although up to the present time I have not been called upon to undergo such severe experiences in the field as have other soldiers, whose most helpful testimonies I have read in the Journal and Sentinel, I am encouraged by these to acknowledge the invaluable help received during the last twelve years from the study of Christian Science.
When first Christian Science came to my notice, I disliked the very name of it. I read a book against it, but was in time persuaded to read also the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. From that time onward my outlook on life changed, and I began to see that there was a way by which both sin and sickness could be overcome. The Bible, though always a source of comfort, became intelligible and a practical help in everyday experience, and its apparent contradictions were explained. My health improved; the desire for strong drink and for smoking left me by degrees, and I was much more tolerant toward people whose views differed from mine.
I have been healed by Christian Science alone of water on the knee, the result of an accident, and of gout, rheumatism, and seasickness. I have been rendered much less afraid of, and therefore much less subject to, colds. My standard of honesty has been raised considerably, and Christian Science is helping me to lead in every way a better life. My hearing, which for some years has troubled me, has within the last few months improved noticeably.
