When my progress in Christian Science seems slow, and...
When my progress in Christian Science seems slow, and the road to understanding long, I have only to remember the numberless blessings which have come to me and to mine, to realize that my dearest possession is the never failing Science of Life, Truth, and Love. This acknowledgment of my gratitude should have been made long ago.
One Saturday morning some years ago my sister swallowed a black pin two inches in length. We were quite new in Christian Science, but it did not even occur to us to seek other than divine help, although the pin lodged in the throat. As our own understanding of the truth did not seem sufficient to still all fear, my mother took her at once to a practitioner who has helped us over many rough places. As a result of this visit they returned home feeling much less fearful. The following day my sister attended Sunday school and church, and the next three days she went to school as usual. Although she coughed slightly and could feel the pin in her throat, she was able to eat and sleep, and she did not suffer in any way. On Wednesday night she attended the church service, and there talked with the practitioner. Again she returned home with all fear dismissed. The following morning, shortly after rising, she felt faint and threw herself face down across the bed. The pin slipped easily from her throat and out of her mouth. She suffered no further ill effect whatever. For this wonderful demonstration of the power of Truth we can never cease to be grateful.
Last winter, with the help of the practitioner, my mother was healed of acute lung trouble. She has also been completely healed of nervous prostration. Another sister has laid aside glasses, which she had worn since childhood. Among many other ills I have been healed of rheumatism in several of its most severe forms. My earliest recollections are those of suffering, and my fear of the almost yearly attacks was intense, but I have been entirely healed through Christian Science, and for almost six years there has been no return of the trouble. On moving a few months ago from my home in a high and dry western city to a damp eastern climate, I allowed a little of the old fear to creep in, but through the study of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" it was quickly overcome. In this overcrowded city where great difficulty is experienced in finding a place in which to live, divine Love has supplied our need.
