Boston is beloved by the world encircling membership of The Mother Church, because there may be found the edifice representing locally Mary Baker Eddy's church. The influence of this church through its many agencies and human representatives is world-wide. In 1866, before this church was dreamed of, Mrs. Eddy wrote a poem, in which she said (Poems, p. 39):—

Work for our glorious cause!
And be your waiting hearts elate,
Since temperance makes your laws.
