[The Methodist Times]

Religion adds the vision of a new heaven to the hope of a new earth. In other words, a great spiritual inspiration is at work on a vast social scale. Noble ideas of brotherhood, bringing peace, cooperation, and satisfaction in its train, are transfigured by the sublime glory of the Father's purpose and the mind of Christ. The Christian church does well to feel the utmost sympathy with these new aspirations and hopes. The corporate action of the church as a whole may still be slow and fitful, for the church is much encumbered and compromised by many alliances with the order that is passing away.
