Medicine Hat News
Christian Scientists accept the entire Scriptures and study them constantly. Christian Science makes clear the allegorical meaning of the latter part of the second chapter and the whole of the third chapter of Genesis, and it may be remarked in passing that many leading religious thinkers to-day are coming into agreement with Mrs. Eddy's explanation of these chapters.
Christian Science teaches that God is the one ever present, eternal, divine Mind, who has created man and the universe and governs all. It does not, however, as our critic claims, reduce God "to a mere mind." It draws a clear line of distinction between the divine Mind, God, and the counterfeit, the carnal or human mind, which, as St. Paul says, is "enmity against God." To prevent any possible misunderstanding on this point, and in reverence for God's name, Mrs. Eddy capitalizes the word "Mind" when she uses it to mean God. When this is borne in mind by those who study "Science and Health with Key to the Scritpures," there is no danger of mistaking the author's meaning. Critics overlooking this fact in quotations from this textbook, convey a meaning the very opposite of what the author intended.
