My attention was first called to Christian Science while I was a young girl, but not being associated with people of this faith it soon passed from my thought. Afterward for a long time all I happened to hear or read of it was of a disparaging nature and I felt no interest in the subject. About fifteen years ago, however, my attention was again called to it because a sister was healed of a so-called fatal disease through its ministrations. As I had given up two years of teaching because of her illness. I knew from personal observation what a change had been wrought in her. After her complete recovery I again resumed teaching, having accepted a position in a town a considerable distance from my home. In the meantime this sister had become a subscriber to the Sentinel and sent me an occasional copy. While I rather liked the reading matter I began to wonder whether it might not bring disgrace to the whole family for her to espouse such a faith, but I have learned long since that Christian Science is the greatest blessing that can come to any family.
Although I had usually enjoyed a fair degree of health, I was subject to colds and throat trouble every winter, and during the second winter after this sister's healing I felt impelled to write to her for help to overcome a severe cold, as the usual remedies had afforded no relief. The result of her response was most gratifying. I sent for a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," but read it very little until two years later, when, having lost my mother, I failed to find the comfort I craved in the religion to which I had adhered. I then took up the study of Christian Science more systematically. Besides experiencing relief from troublesome colds and sore throat, I have been healed of chilblains and other annoying ills. While I am naturally grateful for the physical benefits, I am even more thankful for the spiritual enlightenment gained through the study of Mrs. Eddy's writings in connection with the Bible, for the privilege of class instruction, and for all of the periodicals issued by The Christian Science Publishing Society.
