Healing Based upon Principle

Many people do not understand that Christian Science Mind-healing is based upon a demonstrable Principle, and so are misled as to its origin and purpose. Indeed, they often voice their belief that its cures are the result of one human mind acting in some mysterious way upon another. Nothing could be more erroneous than this, and any open-minded person who will look into the teachings of Christian Science will quickly ascertain how foreign these concepts are to its true mission to humanity.

Christian Science teaches that there is but one Mind or intelligence; that this intelligence constitutes the triune Principle,—Life, Truth, and Love,—understood as God; that this Principle, or one Mind, is the only factor in the healing work, and that the "carnal mind," which the Bible tells us is "enmity against God," is the very antithesis of this one infinite intelligence. Speaking to the carnal mind in his day, Christ Jesus said: "Ye are of your father the devil. ... When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." At another time, when the Pharisees accused him of casting out devils through Beelzebub, his answer makes clear that his godlike results were obtained only by using the power of God in his work.

Christian Science does not use mortal mind force, so called, to cast out the errors of mortal mind, for this would constitute a "kingdom divided against itself," which could not stand. It uses the same means and methods that the Master used, and casts out devils, or the evils of sin and sickness, with "the finger of God," else it never could have stood the test of time nor have shown such phenomenal growth during the half century since it was founded.
