Christian Science stands on its merits, and invites its opponents to let their religion do likewise, leaving the people to judge for themselves. Christian Science has weathered successfully the storms of every conceivable kind of criticism and attack, and is making greater progress relatively than any other religion in the world. If people are leaving other churches for Christian Science, let those churches make their own teaching and practice so attractive and satisfying, in the way the Master commanded, that their members will remain with them. Christian Scientists wish them Godspeed in this.

The adherents of Christian Science are endeavoring to obey the Scriptural teaching of their revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who, among many other admonitions to the same effect, says on page 444 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Students are advised by the author to be charitable and kind, not only towards differing forms of religion and medicine, but to those who hold these differing opinions. Let us be faithful in pointing the waythrough Christ, as we understand it, but let us also be careful always to 'judge righteous judgment,' and never to condemn rashly. ... If ecclesiastical sects or medical schools turn a deaf ear to the teachings of Christian Science, then part from these opponents as did Abraham when he parted from Lot, and say in thy heart: 'Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, ... for we be brethren.'"

Christian Science teaching aims, among other things, to bring about the brotherhood of man rather than to sow discord among churches, as the published statement attributed to our critical clergyman has a tendency to do.
