My husband and I did not turn to Christian Science for...

My husband and I did not turn to Christian Science for physical healing. In Isaiah we read, "And a little child shall lead them," and thus were we led to Truth. In the autumn of 1914, while on a visit in southern California, some friends took our five-year-old son to the Christian Science Sunday school, and when we returned to our home in San Francisco, he expressed the desire to go regularly. We visited First Church and learned that the Sunday school and church services were convened at the same time. We accordingly entered him in the Sunday school, and being obliged to accompany him each Sunday, we attended the morning service. My mother had recently passed on, and I found much of peace and calm in the Lesson-Sermons, the beautiful prayer, and the hymns.

Three months later our wee laddie (our only child) was stricken by a serious illness and after two weeks of suffering he passed on. Because of our great fear and our slight acquaintance with Christian Science, we had called in a doctor, who in turn installed two nurses and brought a specialist, but the result was as stated. In our despair we turned unreservedly to Christian Science and began to read and study, and we have learned that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). Words but feebly express the gratitude we feel for the help and comfort received, also for the Sunday service and Wednesday evening meetings, Mrs. Eddy's books, the periodicals, the lectures, and the kindly, patient practitioners. We have had several demonstrations over physical errors. Neuritis, nervousness, and sleeplessness, from which I suffered for five years, also a tendency to colds and throat trouble, have been completely overcome for me; and the effects of contact with poison oak, bowel trouble of long duration, and a recent case of influenza accompanied by extreme fever have been successfully overcome for my husband.

Of far greater value than the physical relief is the blessing of having found a practical religion—a truth that we can apply to all life's problems be they large or small, a truth which gives the understanding of a loving Father-Mother God, of man's relation to Him and to his fellow man. I am truly thankful to God and grateful to Mrs. Eddy for presenting this healing, comforting, and saving truth to the world.—(Mrs.) Harvey Knapp Quin, Oakland, Cal.
