I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science...
I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done and is doing for me and mine. About six years ago while in Denver, Colorado, I found myself trying to decide whether to take up work preparatory to entering the ministry or to teach physical culture. I had made inquiries from a Presbyterian minister as to the college work, and had also taken steps to find out the possible cost of starting a physical culture college. Something, however, put a stop to my plans, and in a few days I found myself rooming at the home of a Christian Science practitioner. One evening I returned from down town suffering with a sick headache, and on entering the house, had to lie down. The practitioner asked if I cared to have her treat me, and I said if she could help me any to do so, although I did not know how Christian Science worked and did not believe in it. She told me to go to my room and I obeyed, and as I reached the doorway of the room the headache disappeared; then I knew a change of thought was necessary about the efficacy of Christian Science, so I took up the study of it. I did not get much out of it at first, but soon recognized that Christian Science was just what I had been trying to find in the Bible for many years, and that at last my search had been rewarded.
Since that time I have been healed of an uncontrollable temper, of sick headaches of some fifteen years' standing, of catarrh from which I had suffered over twenty years, and of bowel trouble for which I had taken everything in the line of material remedies for several years. About a month after beginning the study of Christian Science I was healed in less than thirty minutes of fallen arches, and at the same time corns disappeared and have never returned.
Our eldest boy when at the age of two years was saved from the grim reaper by the loving and untiring devotion of a practitioner. The child's fever was higher than that which physicians claim one can have and survive. At the age of eighteen months our youngest boy in falling got his right arm into a tub of hot lye water. As my wife picked him up he rubbed the arm with his other hand and the skin and pieces of flesh came away. A practitioner was called at once and in twenty minutes the child was free from pain and was asleep. In one week new skin had commenced to form, and in two weeks the arm was healed with the exception of the places where the flesh had come out, and those were healed soon afterwards. My wife has been healed of a condition which according to the old way of thinking required the services of an expert surgeon and the help of a good hospital staff. This condition was overcome in less than a week. Recently she was healed of a similar trouble within a week's time. Most of these demonstrations have been brought about by absent treatment. We have also been freed from a sense of want and are now experiencing plenty.
