Extracts from Letters

"I wish to express my thanks to the Publishing Society for publishing my testimony, which appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel. I am sure it is the desire of every sincere student of Christian Science to become a witness for the truth, and perhaps there may be others like myself who do not yet realize what they may accomplish by sending in their written testimony to the Publishing Society, and through our periodicals sending it out into the world. More and more assurance of God's willingness and power to heal thus comes to many, and I am sure there is not one student who could not give some experience which has proved that Christian Science is so practical and demonstrable that it can be used in all our daily affairs.

"I think some of us have received so many blessings that we begin to take them as a matter of course, forgetting the discordant past, before we knew anything of Christian Science. We fail to remember that there are still many who, as we once were, are ignorant of this wonderful truth, and yet are hungering and thirsting for it,—some to whom we may become messengers of the truth which heals. When I sent in my testimony I did so from a deep sense of gratitude for the innumerable blessings I had received. I felt it was a duty and privilege to acknowledge publicly some of them, but I did not then realize what I now know,—that each one of us is an individual witness for the truth. Each has a message to deliver, and some one else cannot do our work. I realize this from having received several letters from various parts of the East, asking me for further assurances and particulars of my healing. I had not expected this, as I have read many testimonies similar to my own in the periodicals.

"I carefully answer each one that comes, being glad and thankful that I can extend hope and encouragement to some who are turning to God in their extremity; and I know that in so doing I am giving a cup of cold water in Christ's name. If others who have not yet sent in their testimonies could know something of the joy and happiness that come to those who are serving Love's purpose in this way, the Publishing Society would be fairly deluged with helpful testimonies of all manner of healings that have come through an understanding of Christian Science. This is sent with love and gratitude."
