"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our...
"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, teaches that a knowledge of God heals the sick. I heard of Christian Science for the first time over twelve years ago, when my husband and I were visiting his aunt, who was a student of this Science. While there I injured my ankle, and the pain was so severe that my husband asked her to treat me, which she lovingly did, with the result that the pain left immediately and I slept all night. I walked on the foot as usual next day, and by night all swelling was gone. Later, through reading Science and Health, I was healed of severe cramps.
I did not, however, rely entirely on Christian Science until 1914, when all other means failed me. I was then healed of heart trouble, nervous prostration, and severe burns on the right leg developing into blood poisoning. This last healing was very slow and deep scars remained for over a year, but these also disappeared. Three years ago I asked for treatment and was completely healed of lung trouble in its last stages. This healing was accomplished in three months. After that I was enabled to apply Christian Science to my children's needs and prove that fear cannot hinder our demonstration of truth. My little boy awakened one night suffering from what is known as membranous croup. I picked him up, but was so frightened I laid him down so as to get Science and Health to read. Then the thought came to me that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." Instantly all fear left, and I looked at the child. He had fallen asleep and was breathing naturally. I knew the healing was complete and went to bed.
For the many wonderful blessings I have received through Christian Science and for the loving help and encouragement of the faithful practitioners, as well as for the spiritual uplift, I am indeed grateful. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and the local church. I am thankful to God, and grateful that our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose consciousness was pure enough to apprehend the teachings of the healing Christ, and who was brave enough to present them to a sin sick world hungering and thirsting for the truth.
