Morgenavisen
With reference to the item reprinted in your March numday, in which Christian Science is included under the systems classed as "overstrained religiousness," I beg to observe that this grouping suggests that Christian Science has not been thoroughly studied or its teachings rightly understood by the writer of the article. The readers of Morgenavisen will, through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, themselves be convinced of the truth of her words, "The Sermon on the Mount is the essence of this Science" (Science and Health, p. 271). At the same time anybody who tries to practice Christian Science teachings will find that according as devotion and obedience to Christ are growing, dominion over the old man, including the mortal qualities,—human will, self-assertion, pursuit of mental and bodily pleasures,—will be more and more obtained. Christian Science, which is teaching its students to seek first the kingdom of God, has shown itself to be a perfect remedy for the healing of these evils.
Christian Science asserts, "Perfection underlies reality" (Science and Health, p. 353). At the same time Christian Science insists that God's perfect universe is the real universe. When Jesus of Nazareth said, "Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled," he declared thereby the immortality of divine law and the perfection of God's universe.
Thus the basic ideas in the teaching of the Master and in Christian Science conform, and they must necessarily do so, as Christian Science is a rediscovery of the religion which Jesus of Nazareth brought to mankind and of which he is the Founder. No more can it be said of the teaching of Christ Jesus that it is "experimentally scientifically grounded" than it can be said of Christian Science. The teaching of Christ, or Christian Science, is founded on Christ, Truth, which through incontrovertible proofs reveals that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." According to the Bible we can take it for granted that the revelation of Christ caused a revolution in the consciousness of Paul the apostle. The revelation of Christ through Christian Science revolutionizes and changes in the same way the nature of men by the aroused ability to reflect that Mind which was in Christ Jesus.
