I took up the study of Christian Science nearly eight...
I took up the study of Christian Science nearly eight years ago, after having treatment for several months from a specialist for a so-called chronic throat disease without receiving any benefit whatever. At this time Christian Science was mentioned to me, and I decided at once to give it a fair trial, as I had lost faith in medical treatment. I asked for help and also purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I became so interested in the textbook that half my time was spent in reading, and at the end of four days I found myself suddenly well. The following week I asked for help for my little daughter, who had what is called a cyst in one of her eyes. The doctor wanted to operate, but I would not give my consent, as she was very young. With one treatment in Christian Science this ailment also vanished to its native nothingness. Since then we have had many proofs of the power of Truth, in the overcoming of whooping cough, measles, malarial fever, and tonsillitis. I am very grateful for these healings and also for the understanding of the truth gained through studying the Lesson-Sermons.
One day my husband brought our little son into the house unconscious, and laid him in my arms, saying that the mule had kicked him. The evidence of the senses seemed to tell me the worst, but I looked away from the body and immediately began to declare the truth, realizing that God was his life and that matter had no life to surrender. I also read from Science and Health, and in twenty minutes the child opened his eyes. An hour and a half he was eating dinner and showed no ill effects. Surely, God is a very present help in time of trouble.
Words fail to express my thankfulness to God, who through Christ Jesus gave to the world the truth which makes free, and which has again been given to this age in Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Erna Gutman, Eureka, Mo.
