I want to express my gratitude for the great benefits I...
I want to express my gratitude for the great benefits I have received from Christian Science, and for the understanding of the Bible gained through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. As a young girl I was interested in missionary work and corresponded with one of our foreign bishops, expecting to take it up as soon as I finished school. While at college I was constantly studying Jesus' teachings and talking every opportunity to hear those who had been in foreign service relate their experiences. It was while listening to a prominent missionary make the statement, "It is necessary to have a physician live at all missionary posts, as one can never explain to the ignorant heathen why Christians cannot heal as the Bible teaches," that I felt I looked through the church into something beyond, and I began asking questions and thinking as to why this healing power was lost. I received no satisfactory reply until a year later, when Christian Science was presented to me. That was ten years ago, and during all this time Christian Science has been my only physician and has enabled me to find a satisfactory answer for all these questions. During these years I have had almost perfect health, owing, as I know, to the understanding of man as God's idea, which I have gained from the study of this wonderful truth. I have witnessed many healings under Christian Science treatment and know that there is no discordant condition which cannot be overcome if this truth is rightly applied.
I should like especially to speak of the understanding of life which I have gained, the knowledge that man never dies. Recently, while I was helping a friend who was passing through this human sense of separation, an undertaker made the remark to me, "If others could understand this condition as you do, how different our work would be;" and I paused to offer a prayer of gratitude for the understanding which Christian Science has given me.
I am indeed more grateful every day of my life—grateful to all those who have helped me, grateful for our literature, and most grateful for the books that Mrs. Eddy has given us.
