It is with a sense of deep gratitude for all that Christian Science has done and is now doing for me and mine that I write this testimony, in the hope that it may be of some use, of some help and encouragement to others. In 1908 I was a member of the Clergy School in Leeds, England, preparing for holy orders. At that time my elder brother and one of my sisters were completely healed by Christian Science treatment; the former, after years of sickness and medical treatments of all kinds; the latter, after severe surgical operations and after being condemned to a life of useless invalidism. They were both entirely healed in what then seemed to me a remarkably short time, and they are now happier and stronger, and doing better work and more of it, than they ever did before.

With the wonder of this healing work dawning upon me I went forward to ordination, and in 1910 I received full priests' orders in the Church of England. For four years I worked in two large slum parishes in the north of England, and during the last two years of my ministerial work I was studying the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, along with the Bible; and I am most grateful for the way in which this study gave me a much greater appreciation for, and a more real understanding of, the Bible and the great truths it contains. Theologians, theological lectures, and books had never helped me to understand and enjoy the Bible as Science and Health helped me. This book is without doubt a key to the Scriptures, because it is the one and only book to-day which gives to the sincere seeker for Truth a clear, practical understanding of the Bible. It shows the one and only way of interpreting the Scriptures, so as to make daily use of the truth and demonstrate it for one's self.

As I continued my study of Christian Science, it began to form an ever increasing part of my sermons and teaching, with the result that I was called upon to appear before my bishop to answer charges of erroneous teaching brought against me by members of my congregation. Shortly after this interview I resigned from the ministry and took secular work. It is hard to express in words how easy and wonderfully painless every step I have been called upon to take has been. I have been healed of a very severe attack of inflammatory rheumatism, intense pain being done away with almost instantaneously, and was healed of the tobacco habit whilst reading Science and Health. For ten years I was a very heavy smoker, but for the last eight years I have never had any desire to smoke. Both my wife and I have every reason to be most grateful for Christian Science. Our little daughter has never tasted medicine and has been healed by Christian Science, generally in a very short time, of any ailment which has come up, proving to us the value of the Master's admonition, "Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me."
